It would be nice to hear from someone who went to the District school with me in 1950 to 1956. Great school times except for Mrs Appleton who used to give us the cane. |

I was just looking for this information for a while. After 6 hours of continuous Googleing, at last I got loans online it in your web site.
I wonder what is the lack of Google strategy that don't rank this type of informative sites in top of the list. Usually the top websites are full of garbage. |

enjoyed looking at the site. I was born in the Vulcan Village in 1949 and moved out when I married in 1972. Fond memories of the village and the factory. I had 2 brothers Vincent and Stanley and 1 sister Glenis. Unfortunately Vin who trained the mini rugby at Newton passed away all too young in 1992. Our sirname was Hughes. |

I love all the history surrounding N-Le-W. I was born in Birch St and from an early age worked on Jack Pillings Farm down past the old racecourse,we also took milk out on an old van with no back doors on,then from there i took milk out from "old" Bill Christies Dairy on Crow Lane with horse and cart. Our horse was called Sam and in a morning was always found th be the farthest away in the fields behind the dairy, fond memories of growing up in Earlestown with T,T Vicars,Viaduct Wagon works ,Vulcan works,Sankey Sugar works,McCorcadal's printers and not forgetting the Lyme Pit with the mineral line running down to the main line at Earlestown Station. I used to go and count the LUT buses waiting in Earle St to take the wagon builders home, the queue of buses running far down the street. |

Hello
Just a quick message to anyone who remembers Moira Sheppard (nee leach) and to advise that she sadly passed away in hospital in Sheffield 24/8/12 aged 79.
She was a lovely lady and always spoke very fondly of her old hometown. Her funeral will be held 10/9/12 in Sheffield. If anyone has any anecdotes or memories of her please email them to me so I can pass these to her family.
Thank you |

Hi All. Les Prior here with more info. I lived at 49 Fairclough St which was very close to the Curzon cinema (now demolished). I lived in Fairclough St with my Gran, Mother, my 2 brothers Tom and Jeff and my sister Judith (who passed away when she was 24 years old).
I went to the Sea Cadets at the top of Fairclough St which was brilliant and remember a John Whammond who lived at the bottom on Fairclough St. He was also in the Cadets and his parents used to take us on holiday to Wales. I attended Patterson St secondary school and started off in J3 with Mr Parker then onto M3 with the horrific Mrs Horrocks, then to Selwyn Jones with Dizzy Denham in S3 and finally in 4L with Mr Barlow the school lothario with the ladies. I left in April 67 to start at Matthew & Sons and finally joined the Royal Navy in November 67. Kept on coming back to visit home and eventually left the RN in 74 as I had met and married (very young) and then lived and worked in Newcastle upon Tyne and still live there. I took early retirement from BAE Systems and now work part time in the outdoor leisure industry. I do remember some names, Stephen Affleck, Shirley Arnold (who I met up with about 5 years ago now and she lives in Liverpool), Frances Woods, Margaret Wainwright, Linda Colquitt, Sheila Fairclough, Arthur Rahaman?, but have forgotten many names, but not faces. So to close, wishing anyone who knew me or was in those classes, all the very best. Les Prior |

I am researching the Woods Family from Newton Le Willows. John Patrick Woods married Mary Ellen Partington and they had 10 children between 1900-1922. John was also known as Patrick Joseph/John. John and Mary died in the 1950's and their address was Acorn St in the 50's. I'm looking for any descendants who may have photos of their family. Their children included, Mary Ellen, James, Matthew, Joseph Francis and Annie. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks |

Some of us put 2p coins on the track for it to run over, and I was one of the lucky ones to retrieve my coin (which I still have). That would have been 1979/80 |

Hello,
I wonder can I call on local knowledge?
My great great grandmother died in a nursing home in Newton Le Willows in 1948, almost 90years old! I wonder can anyone tell me whether they know of a nursing home dating back to then and if, by any chance, it still exists?
Many thanks indeed.
Best wishes
